How will you carry your light?

As it turns out, you cannot take the Lantern Walk as an observer. Even if you followed this route virtually from your phone, you’ve stepped into the history of this place and become a journeyer along the way.

Now is a moment put down your phone. There’s no digital equivalent for listening to the sounds all around you— no audio file that could replace a real moment of solitude and silence. Find a spot to sit among the ancestors here in the cemetery. Imagine how many full lifetimes are now resting here peacefully... how many stories of Africatown they could tell.

Reflect, just for a moment, on your own life and talents. You’ve gotten through some challenges that life threw at you so far. Throughout it all, what is something that you’ve learned to be good at? ...Or what’s something you’re proud that you have done?

With just a moment more, surrounded by these graves, consider if you have anyone to be grateful for:

Along the way, who helped grow your inner light, as bright as it shines now?

What do you have yet to do with it..? To whom can you pass it on?
